Some Doodles

It was a hot day, back in October and the schools were on holiday. A teacher friend and I decided to meet up at Sea point pool and go for a swim. The pool is incredibly beautiful and I strongly recommend any who visit Cape Town and have some time to kill to go to Sea point pool for a chill.

It so happened that the pool was under refurbishment before the December craziness and so was out of action. My friend and I enjoyed a cup of coffee nearby then went our separate ways. I was in no rush so I  went back to the pool. There were some tables nearby where Ice cream was being sold…And I had my trusty sketchbook!

I took a seat and covertly started sketching those around me: I had a watery purple paint to start with and then added details with black fineliner. One of the people I was drawing, unnexpectedly got up and walked towards me…I had been seen! When sneakily sketching someone, rule number 1 is: Don’t t be observed…I was chastising myself.  With regret I showed her my drawing and this lead to a 15 minute convo about Brazil and ourselves. She was a retired Brazillian business woman who had come to South Africa to learn English.

A good day of drawing and chatting was had by all! Below are some of my sketches.

A drawing of two matric learners from Camps Bay High. The sun was behind them giving them nice Silhouettes.

This was the one of the Brazilian woman. She was interested in seeing it.

These two were sitting a little distance away from me so I couldn't make out much detail. I just captured their poses.
